Making pom poms is a highly rated popular activity for seniors, and creating pom pom chicks adds an extra level of fun. It’s an enjoyable activity, but some may need assistance with tasks such as trimming the yarn or gluing, so it’s important to plan this activity appropriately.
Let’s gather all the materials and make an Easter craft. You can do this individually or in a group and have a wonderful time.
Materials needed for this craft:
- Yarn
- Scissors
- Cardboard
- Googly eyes
- Orange and pink felt
- Ribbon
- Craft glue or hot glue
- Pom pom maker template (you can find one online or draw your own)
Here are the steps to make a pom pom chick:
- Gather the materials: yarn, cardboard, scissors, googly eyes, orange and pink felt, ribbon, and glue.
- Cut two large cardboard circles of the same size (approximately the diameter of a tuna or salmon can) and two smaller circles. Make a small hole in the center of each circle.
- Place the two larger cardboard circles together and start wrapping yarn around them, passing it through the hole in the center (see image below). Repeat the same for the smaller circles.
- Keep wrapping the yarn until the cardboard circles are completely covered.
- Once the circles are covered, cut the yarn around the edges of the circles.
- Tie a piece of yarn tightly around the middle of the wrapped yarn and cardboard circles.
- Now it’s time to remove the cardboard circles.
- Trim the yarn to make the pom poms more round.
- Tie the two pom poms together and trim the long strings.
- Cut out a small diamond shape from the orange felt and a tiny pink piece for the tongue to make the beak. Also, cut out the two feet.
- Glue the googly eyes and the felt beak onto the pom pom to create the chick’s face.
- Glue the orange felt feet.
Now you have a cute pom pom chick that can be used as a decoration or a fun toy. This activity can be a great way to engage seniors in a creative and enjoyable craft project.
